Thinking of getting a shitzu and I have a granddaugher who is 15 mos. old.

Shih Tzu are the friendliest dogs ever. My mams friends daughter is 2 year old and they get on tremendously. For some reason she knows to be more gentle wth smaller children. I would definatly reccomend the

They have very high maintenence coats, so you have to be prepared to spend time and money on brushing them and taking them to the groomers

I think a puppy will be fine with your child, as long as you train her properly and not to bite. Yes, puppies can be a bit of a pain sometimes, but the love you get from them more than makes up for it. However, the toilet training could be difficult, as Shih Tzu can be very stubborn. Mine was suprisingly easy, but usually they take longer than larger breeds.

My Shih-Tzu is awesome with kids. He loves to be petted and loved on. If you go looking for a Shih-Tzu, make sure you get one from a reputable breeder and find the one in the litter that immediately rolls over on his back to get a good tummy rub!

I would recommend getting an adult in this situation. Puppies can sometimes be rough and playful and might not fully understand that they need to be careful around children.

Be careful with adult dogs too, they must have had experience with children in the past. If you go to a shelter, the caregivers should be able to give you a good idea of whether or not a certain dog would do well in a home with children. Most dogs, by the time they are adults realize that different behavior is necessary around children and are usually more patient with the rough hands of children.

Well I have had my shih tzu for 13 years and she never bit anyone, even when little kids would come and pull her tail or bug her in any way, she would just go along with it so I think that shih tzus are very good dogs. The only time they may bite is if a child may be pulling its tail etc alot.
