Does anyone know of a dog, small dog, or shi tzu rescue close to TN?

Question by ValentinaQuinn: Does anyone know of a dog, small dog, or shi tzu rescue close to TN?

Hello all. I’ve been searching on the net for a while and I’ve only found one shi tzu rescue site (I’ll be e-mailing shortly), but I need to find some more. If anyone knows of a shit tzu or small dog rescue, please post the information.
So here’s the story:
My sister made an incredibly irresponsible and immature decision a couple years ago to purchase a pricey Shi Tzu from an irresponsible breeder. So now with a 3y/o and a 2y/o she has a Shi Tzu that she never took the time to train or really housebreak. AND if she had done an ounce of research before getting this dog, she could have found out that Shi Tzu’s have a reputation for not being patient with kids. Really this is all my sister’s fault. She should not have gotten the dog to begin with as she did not have the time or money to care for it. So today when she was not watching them closely, the 3y/o handled the dog roughly and was bitten on the cheek badly. Now I need to quickly find a home for the dog or it could be put to sleep.

If you call a local vet or the ASPCA they will be able to give you those numbers. I also live in TN and I know that there are quite a few no-kill shelters all though a Shihtzu rescue would be best. The easiest way to find those numbers is to call a vet/animal shelter

Good luck!

No reputable rescue or shelter will adopt out a dog with a biting history, you need to have the dog euthanized. Or rather your irresponsible sisier does. No shelter or rescue can risk being sued over a dog bite and they quickly lose their insurance if they have one, trust me, our rescue did and it along with the other rescues and shelters I work with never accept a biter and temperament test their dogs so any nipping is the axe for the dog. I have a Dobe who nipped/growled at a housekeeperin her second home and the shelter contacted me because they had to put her to sleep even tho it was possible she only growled. She was mistreated at her former home so is very touchy around people at home but fine in public. If you place the Shih Tzu then you are responsible for the dog if it bites and the people can sue you and your sisiter.

First, understand that Shi Tzu Rescue may not be able to take your sister’s dog. There are so many insurance issues with private rescue that many won’t take a biter no matter what the circumstances.

Here are several suggestions. Contact the national breed rescue and see if they have anyone in Tenn,

There is as Bluegrass Shih Tzu Rescue as well

If they can’t take the dog, ask them is they know of any private rescuers who might. Bless you for helping

Check out your local humane society or no kill shelter.
