Question by Shooting Star: How many people buy dogs instead of adopting?
Does anyone have a ratio of how many people buy dogs at pet shops vs. adopting? I need legitimate evidence too, or link me to a website that says so. Please help me out, i’m doing a persuasive speech on Why people should adopt a dog from a shelter.

I don’t know of any actual studies that have been done, but I know for a fact, that most of the dogs at my training classes have been adopted from a breeder. The next majority is pound dogs, then accidental litters. I don’t know of any pet shop dogs
I love pound dogs, there is so much variety and you’re left with the thought that you saved that dog from a short life in the pound.
Dogs should be adopted from the pound because people will always be breeding dogs, and those dogs will always have homes. But those that don’t will be thrown into a pound, left in a cage that’s cold in winter and hot in summer. This is where they spend weeks, (or in my dogs case) months in this cage being barked at by every other dog. It’s incredibly stressfull, then there’s that amazing moment when a family looks through the bars and see’s the potential in that scrappy little pound dog.
That dog then treated like royalty for the rest of it’s life. It’s a much better feeling than going to a breeder and picking out the cutest puppy.
