My dog would shake his head like crazy or rub his ears on the floor. You should probably call the vet and see if you can get some ear drops.

Yes, the shaking of the head, scratching of the ears are good signs.
You can also take a brief sniff of his ears too. (I know, kinda gross) If they stink, he probably has an infection.
Clean the ears too, if you get a bunch of gunk, and later in the day can get more gunk out of the ears … probably an infection.
Make sure to visit your vet, as they will prescribe something to get rid of the infection.

Get a cleaning solution from your vet.Have the vet show you how to clean their ears as to pick up on the ear so the swab does not go in too far an punture the eardrum. It must be done,,it is part of being a dog owner. If the wax is dark brown they will also needs drops from the vet.Follow directions to the end. Sometimes dogs have this problem when their ear canal is too narrow causing not enough air flow in the ear to dry up~common in floppy eared dogs.

Hi Lemons!!! You can not treat this at home; she needs a vet as soon as possible. Some of the common things that could have caused this problem include; allergies, mites, bacteria, infection, something actually getting into the ear, diseases, and yeast infection (and this isn't even a complete list if that gives you any idea of how many different things can have the symptoms you are describing.)
If she continues to scratch them and you don't take her to the vet she could rupture her eardrum if she hasn't already. Your vet should clean the ears and teach you how to (must be careful if done incorrectly more damage could be caused.) He may have to sedate the dog depending on how painful it is for her. He will then take samples to see what is wrong with her. Most likely she will need medication (antibiotics, yeast cream ect or so forth depending on the problem.)
I am sorry !!!. Lots of luck!!!

ear mites or an ear infection will cause them to scratch at their ears. Seeing your other dog is starting to do it also my guess would be ear mites. It would be best to go to the vet and have it checked out, but they do sell ear mite medicine at the pet store.
